ASSOC Prof Dr Shahrul Mizan Ismail makes an important point in his letter on artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education (“Maybe AI is not the problem”, Sept 14, The Star; online at bit.ly/4xY4ZFj): If a chatbot can produce an acceptable assignment in 30 seconds, then perhaps we need to ask what exactly that assignment was testing in the first place.
The answer is not simply to ban AI. But we may need to rethink how we teach and assess students from the beginning of their studies.
