THE Scouts Association of Malay-sia (Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia, PPM) marks a historic milestone this year with the successful nationwide rollout of its new official uniform, which was announced in 2025. Upgrading a look that has been a staple for decades was a massive undertaking, but this change was never merely about a fresh design aesthetic. It was a strategic obligation to reclaim the association’s intellectual property, eliminate rampant brand piracy, and secure a financially independent future for the movement.

I truly feel that the development of this new visual identity was a true labour of love and believe that the initial redesign efforts were spearheaded entirely in-house by dedicated members of PPM.

A Scout’s uniform is the canvas of their journey, which is why this rollout went beyond just the shirt and trousers. As part of this comprehensive rebranding, I noticed that the designs for all proficiency and standard badges have also been refreshed.

The updated badges feature sharper, contemporary designs that align seamlessly with the new identity, providing members with a vibrant, modern visual language for the skills and milestones they work so hard to achieve.

For years, PPM faced the silent challenge of unregulated, counterfeit uniform productions. While unauthorised vendors profited from the association’s hard-earned heritage, PPM lost out on crucial revenue that rightfully belongs to the development of its members. The new, trademark-protected uniform and strict enforcement has effectively curbed this piracy.

By transitioning to this official, centrally managed standard, it’s now guaranteed that every investment made by parents directly supports the association’s mission. As a parent of a scout, it brings me satisfaction to know that proceeds from the sales of the uniform are finally being channelled directly back into grassroots development, actively funding subsidised leadership camps, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) , and perhaps national-level Jamborees.

Syabas PPM for taking a massive step towards becoming a truly self-sustaining organisation. Every ringgit recovered from counterfeiters is a ringgit you are now investing directly into building the leaders of tomorrow!
