University degrees in the age of AI

BACK in the 1970s and 1980s, many employers recruited university students even before they graduated. A university degree was once seen as a gateway to stable employment and career success. Today, many graduates submit numerous job applications without even receiving a reply.

The letter “Future value of education” (The Star, April 3) by Lee Qiao Hui prompted me, and probably many others, to rethink the true value of education, particularly a university degree, in an era where information, technical knowledge and even complex calculations can be easily accessed through artificial intelligence (AI).
