Safety risks in using plastic containers to transport petrol

WE are writing to express our deep concern regarding public safety and regulatory enforcement in light of the recent incident involving a man who was cleared of wrongdoing for filling plastic containers with RON95 petrol at a station in Bayan Lepas, Penang.

While the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry clarified that the individual was a fisherman with a valid permit, this explanation does little to alleviate the genuine safety risks such practices pose to the public.
