Support for stronger laws to tackle 3R issues

AS a 38-year veteran of the Royal Malaysia Police Force, where I spent 16 years in the Special Branch, I am heartened to note that our government is considering amending the existing laws or creating new legislation to address issues related to the 3Rs (race, religion and royalty), “Increase in racial tension could see govt making changes” (The Star, March 12).

I believe only strong laws will effectively manage the situation. In my days, we had the Internal Security Act (ISA) and the Emergency (Public Order and Prevention of Crime) Ordinance to tackle sensitive issues. With these laws, we were swift in taking action against the perpetrators.
