DURING a recent visit in Miri, I went to a fish market a short walk away from the hotel where I was staying. Many visitors, locals and tourists alike, would naturally explore the market, but what I encountered there left me in shock and dismay.

On display for sale were carcasses of juvenile hammerhead sharks priced at RM10 each (pic). I paused, not out of anger but out of sadness.
