Consider a single yardstick for entry to top universities

I REFER to the report “Ministry: Admissions were fair” (The Star, Sept 10). While I acknowledge the Higher Education Ministry’s assurance, the ongoing debate on university admissions highlights a larger issue that requires structural reform – the absence of a common benchmark for entry into our nation’s top universities.

Currently, students enter public universities through streams such as STPM, diploma and matriculation. However, these streams cannot be compared on an “apple-to-apple” basis.
