IN his royal address at the investiture ceremony for 2025 in conjunction with the Agong’s official birthday celebration at Istana Negara on Monday, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, issued a timely warning about a silent but potent threat facing Malaysia – “a ‘virus’ that will strike our nation”.

Sultan Ibrahim expressed grave concern over the growing polarisation within the country, particularly stemming from the fragmentation of political parties and the rise of internal factions, cliques and personality-driven camps. This, he said, is not merely a political issue but a societal illness that threatens national unity, too.
