Cambodian King to remain in China for treatment of prostate cancer

PHNOM PENH: His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni will stay in Beijing for another one to two months to undergo further treatment for prostate cancer.

"According to the most meticulous and careful examination by the medical team at the state hospital in Beijing, People’s Republic of China, it has been confirmed that I currently have prostate cancer.

"Following the medical team’s instructions, I seek permission to remain [in China] and am not yet able to return to the motherland at this time," the King said, in an Friday (April 10) Royal Message.

"The medical team requires me to stay in the hospital for treatment according to their prescriptions and to maintain my health for a further period of one to two months," he added.

As per the Constitution of Cambodia, Senate president Hun Sen will remain acting head of state while the monarch is abroad.

The King and Her Majesty the Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk also sent their well-wishes and prayers to all Cambodian people on the occasion of the upcoming Khmer New Year. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN
