CANING as a sentence for the commission of serious offences is viewed as inhumane and barbaric by many NGOs and human rights activists.
It is undeniable that caning is excruciatingly painful and would lead to extensive soft tissue injury, so much so that some convicts would trade a couple of extra years behind bars in lieu of it.
