Heartfelt thanks to shining examples of Malaysian brotherhood

I AM a 50-year-old Malaysian citizen, born and bred in Kuala Lumpur and lived in Sarawak and Sabah for some years. My parents are both military veterans. Papa is a Peranakan from Melaka. My Hokkien mum met and married him when she was part of the first batch of airwomen in the 1970s.

I grew up speaking English, Malay and a smattering of Chinese dialects. Several years of living in an army camp in Kuching added familiarity with Sarawakian culture. I felt at ease with all of my friends, understanding and accepting the different practices of each race and religion.
