Deforestation is no longer an issue


KUDOS to Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof for issuing the stern warning to the European Union that Malaysia might halt palm oil exports to the bloc in retaliation for its new deforestation regulations.

Such drastic action had been suggested before by palm oil sympathisers around the world to resolve the outstanding issue of sustainability. But the suggestion was not taken up because Malaysia and Indonesia opted for the more civilised diplomacy route.
