Residential aged care is a much neglected and unregulated issue


THE president of the Association for Residential Aged Care Operators of Malaysia (Agecope), Delren Terrence Douglas, recently highlighted the acute shortage of caregivers and nurses for the elderly (“Acute shortage in elder care”, The Star, Feb 20; online at bit.ly/star_elder).

I’m sad to say that not much attention is being paid to the elderly in their sunset years in Malaysia, more so during the current Covid-19 pandemic – and this even knowing the elderly are more susceptible to the virus.
