Primer on pension issue

I REFER to the report “Explore mediation to solve pension issue, ex-judges urged” (The Star, Feb 15; online at https://bit.ly/3gPOTHZ). This group of former judges is one among many others affected by the new pension policy, the largest being civil service pensioners.

Many civil service pensioners feel aggrieved that their rights to a “living pension”, as embodied in the Pensions Adjustment Act, 1980, have been replaced by the policy of a 2% annual increment on pensions following certain amendments to that Act.
