Chinese Embassy says it received letter threatening to kill Chinese nationals in March

TOKYO: The Chinese Embassy in Japan announced Thursday (April 16) that it received in March a letter threatening to kill Chinese nationals.

According to the embassy, which held a press conference over the event, the threatening letter claimed to be from a group of former police officers and Self-Defence Forces personnel and arrived on March 5.

The embassy said it contained a threat to kill Chinese nationals in Japan.

It also said that there was a social media post on March 31 threatening to bomb the embassy.

“We strongly urge Japan to take strict action in accordance with the law and to thoroughly prevent similar incidents from recurring,” said Shi Yong, acting Chinese ambassador to Japan. - The Yomiuri Shimbun
