Malaysia needs stronger e-waste regulation beyond enforcement

MANY of my acquaintances say they have old or broken electronic items at home. When this is repeated across millions of households, the true scale of the e-waste problem becomes impossible to ignore.

Worldwide, e-waste is one of the fastest-growing waste streams and is expected to reach 81.6 million tonnes by 2030. As our lives become increasingly dependent on electrical and electronic devices, the environmental and health risks caused by improper disposal of these devices at the end of their life is increasing in tandem.
