Safety isn’t just about systems, it’s about people


EVERY time I take the LRT in the Klang Valley, I am very conscious of a deadly lack: There are no platform doors. There’s just an empty space between me and the tracks. All it takes is one wrong step. One second of distraction. One push in a crowded station to cross that space accidentally.

We always talk about how the authorities should do more. And yes, they should. We need better infrastructure. We need screen doors. We need real safety measures. And while we’re busy waiting for those upgrades, people are still falling. People are still dying. How long are we supposed to wait?
