IT is difficult to not be disappointed with the public discourse and arguments over the extension of the loan moratorium and special EPF withdrawals in the past weeks.

While the proposed 2021 budget is clearly expansionary, the majority of measures are a continuation of existing initiatives and/or schemes. There is little reform or rethinking of our social protection system, a situation that is to be expected as new ideas that represent a radical departure from the norm would not be readily welcomed.
