Suggestions to help us support tourism

ONCE again, I thank Leesan for his interesting article on travelling (“October brought plenty of bad news for Malaysian travel operators”, StarLifestyle, Oct 31; online at bit.ly/star_holidays). It opened up my eyes to another world that is at least different from my present world of wake up in the morning, go to market, read the news, eat breakfast, go back home and sleep. His words stirred my imagination.

Once before, I used to look forward to visiting far away places like China, England, Japan and Korea. Planning the trip was almost as exciting as getting to the final destination. During the recovery movement control order (MCO) phase, we were happy to travel to Muar in Johor, Langkawi off the Kedah coast, and even have staycations in Kuala Lumpur. Ah, what a break from days of boredom!

In October, though, we had to cancel trips to Ipoh and to Pangkor Laut, Perak, due to conditional MCO restrictions. Be that as it may, we would like to propose the following:

> Post a list of areas that do not have Covid-19 clusters.

> Allow us to go out of our state by showing a confirmed reservation at a hotel.

> Continue tax exemptions and wage subsidies for the hotel and touring industries.
