Breathe new life into sports to forge unity

AS a child, I loved to go to the football field to meet friends, socialise and let out some sweat. Nowadays, the field that was once full of active people is deserted, poorly maintained and is being used as a garbage dump. Small areas are also being used as vegetable plots and sheds for vehicles.

With e-sports now dictating the lifestyle of youth, outdoor physical activities are being relegated to the sidelines. Security concerns and the polluted environment also add to the downgrading of the sports culture in Malaysia, which used to be very strong in various fields including athletics, hockey and football.
