Unfair to be taxed for holding credit cards

THE Customs Department has proposed that a RM25 tax be imposed on each principal and supplementary credit or charge card with the reintroduction of the Sales and Service Tax, “No SST for essential items” (The Star, July 20).

I would like to bring to the attention of the Customs Department that with the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on April 1, 2015, the previous service tax on credit cards of RM50 for each principal card and RM25 for each supplementary card was abolished and replaced by the GST of 6%. Holders of credit cards that are not charged annual subscription fees need not pay the GST.
