I had an email exchange with a reader yesterday.
He wrote, “I recently bought a pair of Dayton speakers for my desktop. They connect via Bluetooth, which is fine, but every time Bluetooth connects/disconnects from the speakers, it makes a LOUD ding-dong alert sound, which I find rather annoying. I can't find anything online about adjusting or even eliminating this sound. Any ideas?"
I asked him if he thought the sound was coming from the computer, or if it was the speakers. I asked him to disconnect the speakers from the computer and pair them to his cell phone and see if they still made the same connection chime.
The reader stated it was the speakers making the sound.
I looked on Dayton’s website and didn’t find a mention of disabling or lowering the volume of the connection chime.
I’ve also experienced a tone or chime when I connect to various Bluetooth speakers from my computer or my phone.
The manual for the specific speakers states the user should expect to hear the chime when the speakers connect.
The speakers have a built-in amplifier and volume buttons on top of the speakers, so my only advice was to keep the volume low on the speaker and see if that lowered the chime volume.
But that’s a lot to ask to remember to turn down the volume every time you turn off the computer.
This is a nuisance, and I’m sure it’s why this reader is asking in the first place, but I’m afraid this time I was not much help.
These better be some pretty good speakers, or perhaps the placement requires a wireless connection. If they’re not your dream speakers, I’d give some serious consideration to replacing them with something with a wired connection.
