Food for thought on festive occasions

MALAYSIANS will be celebrating Hari Raya Puasa next week. A couple of months later, it will be Deepavali and then Christmas followed by New Year, and we will start all over again with Chinese New Year.

In the spirit of Malaysian hospitality, we cook and serve the food to friends who come to visit us. But we often cook more than required because we think it’s better to have more rather than less and we do not want to suffer the embarrassment of running short of food and thereby be perceived as “stingy” or “not hospitable”. As a result, a lot of food often goes to waste.
