OKU card rule for tax relief

MY 90-year-old mother had a fall, broke her hipbone and hasn’t been able to walk since. I bought the necessary equipment for her and claimed tax relief when I filed my income tax returns. I was shocked when I found out that I was not eligible to claim the relief.

According to the Inland Revenue Board, my mother must have the orang kurang upaya (OKU) card for people with disabilities before they could give me the tax relief. This means old people who fall and break their bones must ALL apply for the OKU card to get tax relief. Most people are not aware of this.
