WE REFER to the articles on solid waste management in The Star on Nov 1 and feel these have not taken full account of the efficacies of a full-fledged engineered sanitary landfill, and have failed to draw a distinction between an engineered sanitary landfill and regular dumpsites that are prevalent in the country.
Sanitary landfill is the most efficient and cost-effective method of waste disposal and is capable of having zero impact on the environment. In Malaysia, where availability of land is not a real issue, this is the most ideal method of solid waste management.
