Talk about Changchun and Wang Liqun will tell you with great enthusiasm that the city is the cradle of China’s car industry. 

The deputy information chief of the Jilin provincial government has reason to be enthusiastic. After all, the first made-in-China Jiefang (Liberation) uility truck rolled out of the Changchun-based First Automobile Works Group (FAW) production plant in 1956, followed by the first Hongqi (Red Flag) sedan in 1965.
