Changing consciousness


SOME people are saying that as a result of the downfall of Pakatan Harapan after 22 months, many voters are disillusioned and will not come out to vote in the 15th General Election.

The moment of hope is apparently gone. I humbly disagree that this will certainly be the only possibility.

The political evolution in the country only seeks to strengthen the political resilience of Malaysians.

Despite concerted efforts by certain politicians using fear, religion and race to divide the people through hateful speeches and manoeuvred “sensitive issues”,

Malaysians have chosen to largely remain respectful and accommodating of each other.

In fact, the greater the effort to divide and exclude, the more inclusive many Malaysians have become to the frustration of the politicians and some bigots.

I believe racial and religious rhetoric in politics are no longer as persuasive as it was before.

Politicians forget that at the bottom line, Malaysians are not ethnic- or religious-centric but human beings with human challenges. History has also shown that Malaysians as a whole are a politically resilient lot, something that many politicians are still blind to.
