MALAYSIA has a total of 32 medical schools – 11 in the public sector and 21 in the private sector. That’s the same number as in the United Kingdom, which has twice our population.
Many parents continue to want their children, who are usually top students, to be doctors because the medical profession is deemed to be highly regarded and well-compensated.
