Hindu Sangam urges respect during rituals

THE Malaysian Hindu Sangam (MHS) has strongly condemned unacceptable behaviours and ­rituals by some during Hindu funeral rites and processions, Makkal Osai reported.

“Consuming alcohol, gambling, lighting loud fire crackers, ­unapproved processions, overly loud music, blocking roads ­ and other ­illegal activities sully the rituals themselves and paint the ­community in a bad light,” MHS president T. Ganesan said.

“These kinds of practices are not part of any of the canonical Hindu texts and they also cause disturbance to others and can result in denial of permission by authorities for legitimate ­practices.”

The community must understand and practise the proper ceremonies and rituals during ­funerals, which are sensitive and important, he added.
