SAO PAULO, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were killed and two others were rescued alive after a 12-story building under construction collapsed early Saturday in Sao Paulo, southeastern Brazil, local authorities said.
According to preliminary information from the fire department, about 11 members of a family of Bolivian origin were inside their home in the Penha neighborhood when the collapse occurred.
A pregnant woman was among those killed, while a man and a child were rescued alive and taken to a hospital.
Sao Paulo, Brazil's largest city, has been under weather alerts after a week of storms. The collapse occurred after a night and early morning of heavy rain and strong winds in several parts of Sao Paulo state.
