U.S. dollar ticks up


NEW YORK, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar advanced in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, went up 0.02 percent to 99.657 at 3:00 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro advanced to 1.1576 dollars from 1.1572 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound declined to 1.3534 dollars from 1.3538 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 159.60 Japanese yen, higher than 159.59 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar increased to 0.8125 Swiss francs from 0.8115 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.3906 Canadian dollars from 1.3877 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was up to 9.5395 Swedish kronor from 9.5193 Swedish kronor.
