U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.28 percent to 54,036.93. The S&P 500 added 0.62 percent to 7,757.64. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 1.3 percent to 26,690.62.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with materials and consumer discretionary leading the gainers by adding 1.52 percent and 1.34 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy and communication services led the laggards by going down 1.16 percent and 0.35 percent, respectively.
