TUNIS, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Minister of Economy and Planning Samir Abdelhafidh and the African Development Bank's(AfDB) Deputy Director-General for North Africa Malinne Blomberg signed two guarantee agreements in Tunis on Tuesday to fund water network and chemical industry projects in Tunisia, according to a statement released by the ministry.
The agreements cover financing for the National Water Distribution Utility and the Tunisian Chemical Group (GCT).
The first facility, worth 111.5 million euros, is allocated to a project to improve the technical and energy efficiency of the drinking water network in the Grand Tunis area.
The second, valued at 110 million U.S. dollars, aims to support the environmental rehabilitation and modernization of GCT's production units.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Abdelhafidh said that both projects align with the strategic priorities of Tunisia's 2026-2030 Development Plan.
He highlighted the government's commitment to supporting strategic public enterprises to enhance their performance and efficiency, and praised the AfDB's ongoing role in Tunisia's development.
For her part, Blomberg reiterated the bank's readiness to continue supporting Tunisia in implementing its development priorities. She stressed the importance of the two projects in advancing water and food security, reducing environmental pollution, boosting energy efficiency, and improving local living conditions.
