NEW YORK, July 21 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar advanced in late trading on Tuesday.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, gained 0.21 percent to 101.172 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).
In late New York trading, the euro dropped to 1.1403 dollars from 1.1415 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.3381 dollars from 1.3436 dollars in the previous session.
The U.S. dollar bought 163.18 Japanese yen, higher than 162.50 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar rose to 0.8129 Swiss francs from 0.8100 Swiss francs, and it climbed to 1.4107 Canadian dollars from 1.4059 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar increased to 9.7035 Swedish kronor from 9.6856 Swedish kronor.
