HARARE, July 21 (Xinhua) -- Over 100,000 Zimbabweans have been repatriated from neighboring South Africa amid anti-immigration protests, with the government pledging continued support for their safe and dignified return.
As of July 18, a total of 108,366 nationals have returned, including 33,855 via government arrangements and 74,511 through self-repatriation, Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Zhemu Soda told a post-cabinet briefing Tuesday.
Soda noted that the Beitbridge Reception Center has provided healthcare to 1,474 returnees, with Harare Metropolitan Province receiving the highest number, followed by Manicaland, Midlands, and Bulawayo.
To ensure sustainable resettlement, the government has launched a three-pronged strategy covering social, economic, and cultural reintegration.
Soda said a skills registration process is also underway, with thousands of returnees having been registered across various occupations, including domestic work, bricklaying, and farming.
Meanwhile, security forces have tightened screening and surveillance for all travelers at border entry points, the minister added.
