MOSCOW, July 21 (Xinhua) -- A Ukrainian strike damaged hydraulic facilities at the Belgorod reservoir in Russia's Belgorod Region, causing water to be discharged, regional authorities said Tuesday.
There was no flooding and no threat to the lives or health of residents downstream, Minister of Natural Resources of the Belgorod Region Roman Tatantsev said in a post on MAX, a Russian social media platform.
He added that repeated Ukrainian shelling had continued to target the dam, which would require extensive repairs before normal operations could resume.
The Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine, has come under intensified cross-border attacks in recent weeks. Russian authorities have also reported Ukrainian drone strikes on oil refineries in the Omsk and Moscow regions.
