DUSHANBE, July 20 (Xinhua) -- Tajikistan's real GDP grew 8.2 percent year on year in the first half of 2026, Khovar news agency reported Monday, citing Tajik Minister of Economic Development and Trade Abdurahmon Abdurahmonzoda.
According to the minister, the country's GDP reached 81.7 billion somoni (about 8.8 billion U.S. dollars) during the January-June period, an increase of 10.8 billion somoni from the same period last year.
Despite the adverse impact of global and regional developments, Tajikistan maintained steady economic growth in the first half of the year, the minister said.
The country's economic expansion was mainly driven by a 14.1-percent increase in industrial output, an 18.4-percent increase in fixed-asset investment, and a 26.1-percent growth in retail trade, according to the minister.
Abdurahmonzoda also said inflation stood at 2.4 percent in the period, up 0.6 percentage points from the same period last year. The increase in consumer prices was mainly driven by a 2.6-percent rise in food prices, a 1.7-percent increase in non-food prices, and a 3.8-percent increase in service prices.
