PRAGUE, July 20 (Xinhua) -- The Czech government on Monday approved a draft bill that would ban the use of mobile phones and other electronic communication devices in schools, the Czech News Agency reported.
The proposal received unanimous support from the cabinet. If approved by parliament, it would take effect on Sept. 1, 2027.
Under the draft legislation, the ban would apply to children in preschools, elementary schools, and the lower grades of multi-year secondary schools and conservatories. It would cover classrooms, breaks, school cafeterias, after-school care and school clubs.
The government said the measure is aimed at improving students' concentration, academic performance and the overall school environment, citing positive experiences from countries including France and the Netherlands.
The opposition party said the ban would undermine children's digital literacy.
