Poland seizes over 1 tonne of heroin worth 60 mln USD

WARSAW, June 8 (Xinhua) -- Poland seized over one tonne of heroin with a value of nearly 220 million zloty (about 60 million U.S. dollars), Polish Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwinski announced Monday.

"This is the largest operation of its kind in more than a decade and the biggest anti-narcotics operation in recent years," Kierwinski said at a press conference.

According to the Polish Ministry of the Interior and Administration, the drugs, disguised as decorative bricks in containers, were shipped from the United Arab Emirates and were destined for the Baltic port of Gdynia.

During the first five months of this year, Poland's Central Bureau of Investigation of the Police seized more than 83 tonnes of narcotics, reflecting a considerable surge compared with 56 tonnes in 2025 and 19 tonnes in 2022.
