HARARE, May 11 (Xinhua) -- The Zimbabwean government on Monday reassured the public after three health workers, who had been exposed to a hantavirus case on Ascension Island, were safely repatriated.

Health and Child Care Minister Douglas Mombeshora told a press briefing in Zimbabwe's capital of Harare that the three individuals, identified as contacts of a confirmed hantavirus case, arrived in the country on Monday. All three tested negative in PCR tests conducted on Sunday and remain healthy and asymptomatic.

"There is no indication that the travelers pose a public health risk," Mombeshora said. He added that the health workers will undergo a 45-day quarantine following initial screening and assessment by port health officials, during which they will remain under active monitoring for any symptoms.

The minister emphasized that the situation is under control, with surveillance systems fully active.
