US warplane downed over Iran, crew missing

WASHINGTON: A US warplane has gone down over Iran and US forces are trying to rescue the crew, major US media outlets reported Friday (April 3) after Iranian media aired footage of aircraft wreckage.

The New York Times quoted US and Israeli officials confirming Iranian claims to have shot down a fighter jet.

The Wall Street Journal and Axios reported that a search-and-rescue operation was underway by US forces, following what would be the first known loss of a jet inside Iran since President Donald Trump ordered the war. - AFP
