Zambian government vows to advance adoption of renewable energy

LUSAKA, March 25 (Xinhua) -- The Zambian government on Wednesday pledged to advance renewable energy sources as an alternative to the country's electricity supply.

Addressing the Zambia Annual Renewable Energy Conference in Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, Minister of Energy Makozo Chikote said the government is implementing targeted interventions to strengthen energy security, diversify the energy mix, and expand access to electricity.

"As government, our approach is clear. We must move beyond policy formulation and focus on execution, scale, and results. To this end, the government is advancing several strategic programs and reforms aimed at unlocking investment in renewable energy deployment," he said.

The programs, he added, are not theoretical but practical instruments for delivery, noting that the government is committed to ensuring they translate into bankable projects, resulting in increased generation capacity and improved service delivery.

The minister underscored the role of the private sector in the success of these programs and called on credible investors to partner with the government in delivering energy infrastructure that is reliable, affordable, and sustainable.

The conference brought together renewable energy experts, policymakers, and researchers to foster collaboration, share knowledge, and accelerate the adoption of sustainable energy solutions in the southern African nation.
