U.S. dollar ticks down


NEW YORK, March 17 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, fell 0.13 percent to 99.574 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro climbed to 1.1542 dollars from 1.1521 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.3360 dollars from 1.3333 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 159.00 Japanese yen, higher than 158.95 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar slipped to 0.7847 Swiss francs from 0.7867 Swiss francs, and it rose to 1.3697 Canadian dollars from 1.3670 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 9.2737 Swedish kronor from 9.3263 Swedish kronor.
