OTTAWA, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Canada's Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased 3.2 percent year over year in May, up from a 2.8 percent gain in April, Statistics Canada said on Monday.
Higher prices for gasoline continued to drive the acceleration in the headline CPI in May, said the national statistical agency, adding that excluding gasoline, the CPI still rose at a faster pace of 2.2 percent, compared with 2 percent in April.
The CPI was up 1 percent month over month in May, said the agency.
On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, the CPI increased 0.5 percent, largely due to a rise in the recreation, education and reading and transportation components, said Statistics Canada.
