Germany sweeps podium in two-man bobsleigh at Milan-Cortina

CORTINA D'AMPEZZO, Italy, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Germany demonstrated its depth and dominance in the two-man bobsleigh event, sweeping the podium at the Milan-Cortina Olympic Winter Games here on Tuesday.

The German crews faced little challenge across four heats, consistently occupying the top three positions. Johannes Lochner and Georg Fleischhauer clinched the title with a combined time of three minutes 39.70 seconds.

After securing gold, Lochner described it as "one of the most amazing races of my life."

"This is one of the most amazing tracks in the world, and it perfectly suits my driving style. When I came here and made my first run, I felt at home - and that made the difference," said the 35-year-old, who won silver medals in both the two-man and four-man events at Beijing 2022.

"I think I'm so fast because the sled is set up perfectly. It's minimal steering - the sled does most of the work. The acceleration on this track is optimal," added the three-time Olympian.

Four-time Olympic champion Francesco Friedrich, paired with Alexander Schuller, finished second in 3:41.04, while Adam Ammour and Alexander Schaller secured bronze in 3:41.52.

Frankie del Duca and Joshua Williamson of the United States placed fourth, followed by Romania's Mihai Cristian Tentea and George Iordache.

China's Sun Kaizhi and An Tai finished 16th, while Li Chunjian and Ye Jielong sat one place behind.

The two-woman and four-man medal events are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
