China appreciates Anwar's remarks on one-China policy

KUALA LUMPUR: China has commended Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his steadfast position on the one-China principle.

"China commends Malaysian PM @anwaribrahim's remarks on the Taiwan question and his steadfast position on the one-China principle.

"Nothing will stop China from being reunified," a China Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson said in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday (Aug 19).

It added that the international community's commitment to the one-China principle is not to be shaken.

Meanwhile, responding to Anwar's comments on Taiwan at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said upholding the one-China principle reflects popular sentiment and stands on the side of what is right.

"There is but one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory," Lin said, adding that China's reunification is an unstoppable historical trend, Xinhua reported.

Anwar, in a recent interview with Al Jazeera, said that he sees Taiwan as part of China. "It is one China. It is accepted by all." - Bernama
