RABAT, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Morocco announced on Friday it has secured a 270-million-euro (about 317 million U.S. dollars) loan from the African Development Bank (AfDB) to finance an airport infrastructure modernization program.

The financing will strengthen the competitiveness of Morocco's air transport sector through the modernization of its main airport platforms, the country's state news agency reported.

Under an agreement signed between the Moroccan government and the airports' authority in September, the North African country plans to invest 38 billion dirhams (about 4.2 billion dollars) over the next five years to expand and upgrade its major airports.

The program aims to expand Moroccan airports' capacity to 80 million passengers by 2030 from 38 million currently, as Morocco expects to attract 26 million tourists in 2030 from 17 million in 2024.
