U.S. stocks close higher

NEW YORK, March 21 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 32.03 points, or 0.08 percent, to 41,985.35. The S&P 500 added 4.67 points, or 0.08 percent, to 5,667.56. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 92.43 points, or 0.52 percent, to 17,784.05.

Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with real estate and materials leading the laggards by dropping 1.02 percent and 1.00 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, communication services and consumer discretionary led the gainers by rising 1.00 percent and 0.63 percent, respectively.
