Tajikistan's population reaches 10.72 million


DUSHANBE, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Tajikistan's population stood at about 10.72 million as of Jan. 1, 2026, up 2 percent from the same date last year, the country's Agency on Statistics reported Friday.

According to the agency, the figure was calculated taking into account registered births, deaths and migration.

Khatlon region was the most populous area with about 3.879 million residents, followed by Sughd region with approximately 3.015 million. The population of the districts of republican subordination totaled around 2.299 million, while the capital Dushanbe had about 1.292 million residents. The Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region had a population of roughly 236,400.

Statistics also show that from January to December 2025, a total of 255,100 births were registered in the country, while the number of registered deaths stood at 34,400.
