U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 230.81 points, or 0.47 percent, to 49,625.97. The S&P 500 added 47.62 points, or 0.69 percent, to 6,909.51. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 203.34 points, or 0.9 percent, to 22,886.07.

Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with communication services and consumer discretionary leading the gainers by going up 2.65 percent and 1.27 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, energy and health led the laggards by dropping 0.71 percent and 0.32 percent, respectively.
